20+ marketing ideas for when you just can’t even

My philosophy for marketing (and life) is to do just enough - just enough of the right activities to help us reach our goals.

And there are times when even if we’re doing just enough, we can really and truly only do just enough - when our energy is low and we just can’t even, but we still have to get out there and market our biz.

Whether you’re follicular or in a chronic illness flare; the baby's not sleeping or your kid has been home sick all week; life is dealing you a shit hand or you’re just plain tired - there are always times when the thought of putting yourself out there literally or figuratively feels like a bridge too far.

So, here are 20+ ideas for how you can check “marketing” off your to-do list when you just can’t even.

  • Update an older blog post to refresh the SEO juice

  • Repurpose a piece of content in a different way

  • Scrub your email list and clear out inactive subscribers to boost your open rates

  • Send an email to an established connection you haven’t been in touch with for awhile

  • Spend some time with your data to figure out what’s working (and what’s not!)

  • Create a marketing database with ideas you can refer to later

  • Add what you’re currently promoting to your email signature

  • Practice #ShineTheory and signal boost others!

  • Re-share a podcast or interview you’ve done in the past

  • Ask a business bestie to share your thing with their audience

  • Post a great newsletter as a blog post

  • Use a blog post as a newsletter

  • Research keywords

  • Create some unique links using the Google Analytics Campaign URL Builder to track how people are coming to your site

  • Review the hashtags you’ve been using to see if they’re still relevant

  • Update your LinkedIn profile (great for SEO!)

  • Purchase some low-cost newsletter classified ads (I like ilovecreatives and the Ann Friedman Weekly)

  • Share an old post that still resonates in your stories

  • Ask your clients for a testimonial

  • Send some snail mail to a past client or colleague

  • Install HotJar on your website to see how people are using your site

  • Make a list of podcasts, journalists or potential connections to reach out to when you’re feeling more energetic

  • Schedule social media posts or emails for later

  • Brush up your skills and watch some how-to videos

Part of Slow & Steady’s approach to marketing is honouring YOUR capacity - after all, you’re your businesses greatest asset! Use these marketing ideas when you’re feeling low energy (or anytime!).
